VERO BEACH — Local American Red Cross volunteers responded Tuesday to a fire that affected three apartments on Woodland Circle in Vero Beach, providing assistance to nine residents.
The Red Cross said its Disaster Action Team, made up of specially trained local volunteers, helped coordinate emergency aid for five adults and four children affected by the fire.
The organization is providing emergency financial assistance, health and mental health services, and one-on-one support to help the families connect with available recovery resources. Additional assistance will be provided as the families address needs resulting from the fire.
Disaster Action Team volunteers respond to emergencies throughout the year and provide emotional support and information to help affected families begin recovering.
The Red Cross said its disaster assistance is provided at no charge and is funded through donations.
