A 27-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after deputies say he crashed into another vehicle on SE Dixie Highway, fled the scene and later led deputies on a short pursuit.

A female driver involved in the crash was left behind with her damaged vehicle and called for help, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies began searching for a white pickup truck with heavy damage to its front end and soon located a vehicle matching that description.

When deputies attempted to apprehend the driver, Ariel Simon Bamaca Camey fled again, according to the sheriff's office. The pursuit lasted less than a mile before his damaged vehicle was stopped.

Bamaca Camey, of Guatemala, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving damage, fleeing and eluding, driving without a valid license after never having been issued a valid Florida driver's license, and DUI.

He was taken to the Martin County Jail, where he remains on an ICE detainer.
