Woman dies after apparent shooting in Indian River County; sheriff's office seeks person of interest

Matthew Allen Waggle, 33, is being sought as a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Indian River County.

Indian River County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the death of an adult woman who was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound Sunday morning.

Deputies responded Aug. 16 to a 911 call reporting an adult female in the roadway in the 500 block of 1st Street. They located the woman and immediately began life-saving measures, according to the sheriff's office.

The woman was taken to a local trauma center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The sheriff's office is investigating the death as a homicide. Detectives and crime scene personnel remained at the scene processing evidence.

Investigators are searching for Matthew Allen Waggle, 33, who is considered a person of interest in the case.

The sheriff's office said anyone who sees Waggle or knows his whereabouts should not approach him and should call 911 immediately.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, was in the area of 1st Street Sunday morning or has information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Indian River County Sheriff's Office or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
